BBC Northern Ireland was established in 1955, and continues to have its own team of channel directors/announcers based at Broadcasting House in Belfast.
BBC Northern Ireland produce some local programming, mainly broadcast on BBC1 Northern Ireland, such as political programmes Spotlight and Hearts and Minds, and also has close relations with Irish national broadcaster, RTÉ. BBC Northern Ireland is widely available on digital platforms in the Republic of Ireland, after many years of being available via reflector aerials on analogue television, and Northern Irish digital subscribers can also receive Irish stations, RTÉ1, RTÉ2, TV3 and TG4.
Two domestic radio stations are also run and maintained by BBC Northern Ireland - BBC Radio Ulster, and BBC Radio Foyle (which terrestrially only broadcasts to the north west of the province).
