BBC Wales was established on 9 February 1964 as 'BBC Cymru Wales', although Wales-originated programming had been in existence since the mid 1950s. Continuity on both BBC One Wales and BBC Two Wales is handled live by channel directors/announcers based at Broadcasting House in Llandaff, Cardiff.
Outside of London, BBC Wales is the largest production centre in the UK - as well as producing a great number of local programmes, such as Week In Week Out and High Hopes, it also contributes network programming, such as Doctor Who and Torchwood - as well as Welsh-language commitments to S4C, such as Newyddion, Pobol Y Cwm and Y Clwb Rygbi.
BBC Wales operate two national radio stations, BBC Radio Wales (in English) and BBC Radio Cymru (in Welsh), as well as formerly operating a split BBC Two service between 2001 and 2009 - 'BBC Two Wales' on analogue and 'BBC 2W' on digital. Investment in BBC Wales continues, as plans are for Casualty and Crimewatch to move filming to Cardiff in the near future.
