BBC 2W usually ran from 7pm until around 10.30pm each weekday evening, and a yellow BBC2 Logo ident signalled the change from the BBC2 Wales schedule, and again signalled the return at the end of the service.

Idents, promos and menus had a green boxed theme from BBC 2W's launch in November 2001.

New idents were introduced in 2003, and initially ran alongside the green presentation before it was gradually phased out by the end of the year. The new idents and promo bumpers featured everyday situations, filmed around Wales, involving the BBC 2W box seemingly in place perfectly positioned on-screen, before it is revealed it is actually part of the scene, and often gets moved.

Other presentation also refreshed from 2003 onwards.

BBC 2W News and Sport was shown nightly, initially at 9pm (later 9.30pm), and ran for half an hour. Presented from the main BBC Wales Today set, the programme had separate titles and graphics, and different shots and a more relaxed style were applied - with the focus remaining on Welsh stories and sport, covered in more depth and featuring more interviews. It was presented by the secondary presenters on the BBC Wales team, and never by Jamie Owen or Sara Edwards.

2W News and Sport was rebranded 'Wales Today Extra' on 13 October 2003, and adopted the same titles as used by BBC Wales Today.
