BBC Alba, a joint venture between the BBC and MG Alba, is a Gaelic-language service broadcast across the UK on digital satellite. It broadcasts seven days a week, between 5pm and around midnight. During its downtime, the Gaelic language radio station, Radio nan Gàidheal, broadcasts on the station over information screens. Once digital switchover is complete in Scotland in 2011, it is expected that all existing Gaelic programming that is currently broadcast on BBC2 Scotland will transfer to this service.
BBC Alba launched on 19 September 2008.
