News on S4C has always been provided by BBC Cymru, and transmitted from Broadcasting House in Llandaff.
The agenda is unlike a national news programme from the BBC or ITV, yet also unlike that of Wales Today. Unless a major national or international news item dominates the running order, priority is given to Welsh news, politics and current affairs, and any national item usually focuses on the effects experienced by Wales.
Many correspondents and presenters are shared with BBC Wales' English-language programme, Wales Today, and scheduling has always ensured that the same studio can also be shared. Graphics, title music and lighting have always differed between the two programmes however, in order to give each programme a distinct identity.
The main evening news programme on S4C has been shown at 7.30pm for many years; previously it was shown at 7pm. The short 6pm bulletin was dropped in 2002 and replaced by an update shortly before 9pm, and in 2009 several further updates were introduced at lunchtime, and during the afternoon and evening, usually from the smaller bulletin studio.
