Grampian Television (now legally known as STV North Ltd and referred to on-air as STV) is the ITV franchisee for the North of Scotland, based in Aberdeen. Its coverage area includes the Scottish Highlands, Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and parts of north Fife. It has been in operation since 30 September 1961.
The first Grampian ident was this simple affair. The mountains in the first picture would form to make the Grampian logo. It was used until 1972.

A more melodius soundtrack was introduced when Grampian began broadcasting in colour in 1972. This was used for almost 13 years, a long time in TV presentation terms.

Grampian's first computer generated ident was a colourful affair, but it was very pleasing. The familiar music was given a makeover, and this stayed on air for 4 years, from 1985 to 1989.

Most of the ITV regions refused to acknowledge the ITV Generic idents of 1989. Grampian embraced their version, using it from 1998 until the new ITV logo was unveiled in 1998.

The last Grampian ident to feature the famous Saltire logo, this was used as a stop-gap until Grampian and Scottish received a new look, and it wasn't going to go down well...
