Granada Television is the United Kingdom ITV contractor for North West England. It previously held the "North of England" weekday franchise (which also covered large parts of Yorkshire) from 1954 (broadcasting began on May 3, 1956) until 1968 when its broadcast area was split into two franchises.
An early Granada ident from the 1950's.

Some examples of idents over the years. These idents were not animated.

The Granada logo is made entirely out of candles to celebrate the company's 30th birthday.

The first appearance of the popular Granada 'Stripe' launched in 1990. They refused to use the ITV Generic idents of the time.

A newer version of the stripes, introduced in 1991

A special ident used normally to link into the local news.

The last proper regional ident from Granada. These idents launched in 1994 (?) and lasted until 1999.

After refusing the first set of generic idents in 1989, Granada took on the new hearts symbols in 1999. Sadly, this was the last ident to feature regional continuity as in 2002, ITV1 went national, and all regional symbols were thrown out the window.

The ident was updated in 2001 to co-incide with the new ITV1 branding.

Granada was rebranded to ITV Granada on 28 October 2002, and the ITV1 celebrity idents in use across England and Wales employed the 'Granada' identifier only before regional non-news progrmaming.
